AfriLabs Capacity Building Program hosted by TechQuest STEM Academy


At TechQuest, we are thrilled to share with you the resounding achievement of AfriLabs Capacity Building workshop and Ecosystem event day, funded by Agence Française de Développement through the Digital Africa seed fund and hosted in Lagos, Nigeria by TechQuest STEM Academy on the 12th to 14th of June 2023.

It was a gathering of brilliant minds, visionaries, and industry leaders who came together to ignite a transformative tech revolution in Nigeria and across the African continent. With a lineup of exceptional speakers including Obi Asika, Hakeem Onasanya, Yemi Keri, Oluwaseyi Ogidiolu, and Justina Dika-Oha moderated by Moyinoluwa Joseph, the event was an immersive experience that left the audience inspired, empowered, and ready to embrace the endless possibilities of technology.

1- Inspiring Keynote Address: The event kicked off with a thought-provoking keynote address by our esteemed speaker. Obi Asika captivated the audience with his vision for a digital Africa, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and investment in local talent.

2- Panel Discussions: Engaging panel discussions facilitated meaningful insights in line with the theme of the day, “THE ROLE OF STAKEHOLDERS IN SUPPORTING VENTURE GROWTH”. Hakeem Onasanya shed light on the crucial role that the government plays in supporting startup growth. As regulators and policy makers, the government have the power to create favorable conditions for startups to flourish. Hakeem’s insights highlighted the symbiotic relationship between startups and the government, where both parties contribute to each other’s success. Yemi Keri, an astute investor, emphasized the pivotal role that investors play in supporting the growth of startups. Yemi highlighted the significance of investors as catalysts, injecting capital, expertise, and connections into startups. Oluwaseyi Ogidiolu underscored the importance of creating an enabling environment for startups to thrive. Developmental organizations act as facilitators, working closely with entrepreneurs to provide access to resources, mentorship programs, and capacity-building initiatives. Justina Dika-Oha shared her valuable insights into the pivotal role played by innovation hubs and incubators in supporting startup growth. Hubs act as vibrant communities that provide startups with a physical space to work, collaboration, and access vital resources. The panel session was brilliantly moderated by Moyinoluwa Joseph.

3-Networking Opportunities: Over 30 top tech participants, including budding entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and investors came together at the event. The networking sessions provided a fertile ground for collaborations, partnerships, and the exchange of ideas. Many fruitful connections were made, sparking a ripple effect that will undoubtedly contribute to the growth of the tech ecosystem in Nigeria and beyond. Hub leaders and Managers had an opportunity to network with other hub representatives, investors and industry professionals.
